Pioneer Dvr S606 Drivers For Mac

Posted by admin

Hello, I have recently upgraded my old iBook with a used combo drive. It plays and burns CD and reads data DVDs just fine. However, when I attempt to play a DVD movie, 'DVD Player' starts up, then appears an error message, 'There was an initialization error - A valid video device could not be found for playback'.

Just for kicks, I plugged in my Pioneer DVR-S606 CD/DVD driver/burner into the firewire port, and I get the same result. This external drive plays fine with all the other Apple computers I have around here (including a heavily modified 8600), so I really don't think I have a drive problem. I think it is in the software. 'System Profiler' says both drives are 'Apple Shipped/Supported', and 'Reads DVD: Yes'. Any thoughts? This forum has yet to let me down.! Thanks in advance! Mark G3/600 iBook Mac OS X (10.4.7). Hey, I have an update: In the time since I first posted my problem, the 10.4.8 Update has been released. I downloaded the combo, and ran it on my iBook. I can now play video DVDs using the Apple DVD Player with no problem!

I have not been able to get VLC to work, though I don't think I will be persuing this avenue. I don't know what, exactly, has been fixed. Perhaps I needed to run an update with the combo drive installed? (Running the 10.4.8 combo update on my G3/450 B+W seems to have cured that machine of some quirks, also. Interesting!) SO, while I can't really point to any particular answer as having done the trick, I'm going to mark this problem as 'Solved'. Thanks to every for your help!
