IOS 12 Today Apple announced that it has released iOS 12.0.1 for the iPhone and iPad. This is the first minor point update for iOS 12. The iOS 12.0.1 update addresses five bugs that were causing issues following the iOS 12 release.
What Features Are Included In iOS 12.0.1? IOS 12.0.1 fixes an issue where some iPhone XS devices do not immediately start charging when it is connected to a Lightning cable. The update resolves a problem that causes iPhone XS devices to rejoin a Wi-Fi network at 2.4GHz instead of 5GHz. IOS 12.0.1 also restores the original position of the “.?123″ key on the iPad keyboard. And it fixes an issue where subtitles may not appear in some video apps and it addresses a problem where Bluetooth could become unavailable. IOS 12.0.1 Update Last month, about the charging issue and connected with Lewis Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy to learn why. Lewis Hilsenteger pointed out that the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max does not charge if they are plugged into a wall charger while in standby. As a result, some of the devices become frozen and have to be reset.
Hilsenteger tested out the charging issue on eight iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models by connecting them to the standard charger that Apple included in the box. And only two of the eight worked properly, thus providing how widespread this problem was. If you were having these issues with your iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, then iOS 12.0.1 should fix it. Main iOS 12 Update Apple revealed the main iOS 12 features at the 2018 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. This was followed by a release on September 17th. IOS 12 was designed in a way that brings substantial performance improvements for Apple’s previous generations of iOS devices. For example, iOS 12 brought a 70% faster swipe to Camera, up to 50% faster keyboard display and the app launch is two times faster under a heavy workload. Plus the animations were made smoother so the bringing up the Control Center and swiping while multitasking feels more responsive. And the Share Sheet appears two times faster than before.
Group FaceTime was revealed, but it is not available as of yet. The ability to make audio or video FaceTime calls with up to 32 people is expected to be made available later this fall. Photo suggestions have been added to the Messages app. This feature makes suggestions based on who you are messaging with and what you are talking about. The App Strip in Messages was redesigned so that it takes up less space as you type. Within the Messages app, there is a Memoji feature built-in so you can customize your own Animoji.
Plus four new Animoji have been added to Animoji, including T. Rex, ghost, koala and tiger. From a digital health perspective, the Screen Time feature was highly anticipated. Screen Time provides a better understanding of how much time you and your kids are using apps, browsing the web and performing certain tasks on a device. And there is a Today view with a weekly report, app usage, notifications and device pickups. If you want to block certain apps and notifications for a certain amount of time, then you can also utilize the Downtime feature in Screen Time. Notifications have been grouped in iOS 12 so that they are easier to control.
And you can control the notification settings as you receive an alert without leaving what you are doing. A number of changes have been added to Do Not Disturb to help you sleep better at night and stay focused. There is a new Do Not Disturb During Bedtime that dims the display and silences overnight notifications until you unlock your device when you wake up. And Do Not Disturb can be ended automatically based on the time and location. The new ARKit 2 platform was introduced in iOS 12. This new augmented reality platform includes improved face tracking, 3D object detection and realistic rendering. Augmented reality experiences are also shared across time and can be fixed to real-world locations so that AR art can be viewed by someone else at the same location later on.
To demonstrate the power of this technology, Apple released an app called Measure — which allows you measure boxes, luggage, paintings, etc. — simply by pointing your camera at the object. And to share augmented reality files, Apple launched a new USDZ file format.
Several improvements have been made to the Photos app such as a new For You tab, sharing suggestions, intelligent search suggestions, event and places search and RAW editing support. And the Camera app for iOS 12 has new effects and filters. Siri has been upgraded with Shortcuts in iOS 12. Through Shortcuts, you can customize your own shortcuts based on the time and location.
